Welcome to the first South Wales Valleys Shootout

Held at Shakespeare County Raceway

(Nr Stratford upon Avon) on the 18/19th April 2009

So do you think you have the quickest car in the Valleys! Now is the time to prove it!!

(If you don’t think you have the quickest! you can still enter and run for the fun)

This event is open to all types of road legal car, Hot Hatch, Kit Car, Rally, 4 or 2 wheel drive (Front or rear) but it must carry a full

MOT certificate, Tax, full exhaust and road tyres.

(So please bring them with you)

Please also remember to bring your full driving licence for signing on purposes.

The Valleys Shootout has been set up to find which of you really does have the quickest car for the standing start quarter mile drag on a fully prepped track! The event will be run over two days. So don’t worry if its your first time at the raceway, the track staff are there to help and assist you in any way to take full advantage of the racing distance. So do not be afraid to ask.

Please note:

The valleys Shootout will run alongside Shakespeare County Raceway Public Track Day Test & Tune weekend. So there will be other cars & bikes running on the track. Also, due to the preparation on the track, you CAN NOT use spray bars as this and moisture makes the track un-driveable and un-usable!

Saturday is a test day for everyone to get used to the track and see who has the quickest time of the day. All entrants will be entitled to as many runs as they can make. Once you have completed a run and you don’t want to make adjustments, just simply join the queue and have another go. At the end of the day, the top eight or sixteen (depending on how many attend and how much track time is available on Sunday) will automatically be entered into Sunday’s Valleys Shootout in a straight-up, no holds barred heads up drag race from the trees GREEN LIGHT. Those entrants who fail to make the cut for the elimination shootout or get knocked out, can still make further runs.

The shootout

This will be a 3 or 4 round heads-up elimination with the quickest going through to the next round until there are two cars left to contest the final. With the first rounds featuring the quicker cars it might not necessarily be the first across the line that goes through to the next round, the final will be a heads up, first across the finish line, will win. This will not only rely on your car being the quickest but also on your reaction time (the time recorded when you leave the start line when the green light comes on!)

About myself
My name is Tony Smith and I live and work in Tonypandy. I used to drive around in a Rover V8 powered Mini and for the last 13 years as an active member of the Wild Bunch drag racing a 6 litre Comp Altered Mini Van. Take a look at my web site: www.cunningplan.net. For five days a week I work in a garage as an MOT tester where I always hear that someone bragging that he’s got one of the quickest car in the Valleys. So, with that in mind I have decided its now time to see who can really prove it by organising this event with the help and co-operation of Shakespeare County Raceway - Warwickshire’s friendly raceway where I both race and officiate at.

Where
Shakespeare County Raceway, Long Marston Airfield on the B4632 situated 6 miles South of Stratford Upon Avon (approx 110 miles from Tonypandy).

When
Saturday/Sunday 18th/19th April
(The gates open Friday from 6.00 pm)

How much
General admission to the raceway is £12.00 per person per day or £22.00 for a weekend pass per person (this includes free camping, toilets and showers). There is also an on-site food vendors, bar and disco (Sat) until 2am. For unlimited Run What You Brung/Test & Tune use of a fully prepped track is £35.00 weekend or £20 per day per person. (You can enter as many drivers for the same car as you like but all drivers will be required to pay the RWYB Track Fee - wrist bands will be issued to each driver.)

(Please note: there is NO extra charge to enter the Shootout)

Safety

Helmets must be worn if your car goes quicker than 11.00 seconds for the quarter mile and/or is faster than 100 mph over the quarter mile. It is recommended that you bring a helmet anyway in the interests of your safety and those around you as you cannot hire or buy helmets at the track. For more information about the track, drag racing and track rules please go to
www.shakespearecountyraceway.co.uk

Hopefully, if this event is successful this will be the first of many shootouts, but it is up to you to make it viable. We need as many cars to attend as possible. While on site we ask that you keep the driving to the track and not on the camping fields. Remember there will be other people using the track and the facility. There is a noise curfew of 12 midnight where all loud music, running of engines and driving must cease. The track will not tolerate loud noise or dangerous driving around the site. Those caught will be asked to leave.
